Seventh Netherlands National Communication under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change

English

Netherlands

This report presents the Seventh National Communication from the Netherlands, as required under the Climate Change Convention as well as under the Kyoto Protocol. It describes the information required by the guidelines, including the supplementary information under Article 7.2 of the Kyoto Protocol. The report gives an overview of all required elements, but focuses in more detail on the developments since the Sixth National Communication. There is a high-level mandate for education, training and public awareness. The Dutch climate envoy is responsible for following up on this matter and works closely with the Ministries of Education, Infrastructure and Water Management and Foreign Affairs, as well as with NGOs and in particular youths. In summary, the general policy to promote education, training and public awareness is aimed at: integrating sustainability in the curricula of primary and secondary education; fostering the network of initiatives, organisations and educational institutions that work on education for sustainable development; funding organisations which contribute to increasing awareness of climate; organising events to build momentum and create partnerships; and increase awareness of adaptation.
